The Road to Omaha: The Destination

It’s been a few days out here in Omaha, and it’s become abundantly clear that College World Series fever has taken over. We actually had to learn this the hard way, when there wasn’t a single available hotel room in the entire city our first night in town.

Since then, teams are getting picked off one by one (Arkansas, Auburn, and Florida State have been the victims thus far), but that hasn’t stopped troves of fans from showing up to TD Ameritrade Park day in and day out. Total game attendance is up to over 24,000 for the tournament.

Even for fans who don’t get there early enough to secure a seat, the area isn’t lacking for things to do. Outside the stadium, there are some of the cooler bars I’ve ever seen; if you ever find yourself in Omaha, you gotta check out Slowdown or the rooftop at Blatt Beer & Table.

Some of the games have admittedly bordered on snooze-fests (FSU’s offense has been nothing short of anemic), but the College World Series rarely lacks drama. The finish to Mississippi State-Auburn was as wild as it gets, and I only expect more of the same as the stakes get higher.

You by no means have to be a diehard college baseball fan to have a helluva time at the CWS; the tournament's not even over, and I'd already suggest it as a surefire add to any sports fan's bucket list.
